Everyone has heard that tanning booths are bad for you. Since tanning booths are advertised so much for being dangerous to your skin, the sun is put on the back burner. However, the sun and tanning booths are equally unsafe. The ultraviolet rays from both could lead to cancer because the signals in cells that cause you to tan seem to be DNA damage. Mutations in any of your cells may lead to cancer. Therefore, the DNA damage that is caused by ultraviolet rays could develop into cancer. The body produces vitamin D with the help of ultraviolet rays; however only a little is needed.
We have grown up in a society that tells us what we should look like or what “pretty” is. Unfortunately, tan complexion is one of the things Americans see as what we should like. But is it really worth the risk of cancer just to be tan? I think that if more people were educated on how many people are really affected by skin cancer it would change their minds about hitting the tanning booth.

I really liked your blog. I think it's absurd the amount people go tanning these days. Personally, I think it looks ridiculous and unnatural when people are super tan during the winter time. Some of the people walking around this campus look so fake with their tans that it's actually more unattractive so they are wasting their money. I found a way that these people can avoid the dangerous ultra violet rays, but still be tan. Instead of going to a tanning salon, they could try tanning sprays. I found this website with examples of people who's skin has been damaged by tanning booths. They're are also tips to look for cancer in its early stages! Check it out!

Your bog was really appealing considering I do like to go tanning and work at a tanning salon as well. There's no doubt its bad for you and plays a leading role for getting cancer, however it does serve some type of benefits. Althouh it might sound crazy, the UV rays can actually help fight depression, and like you said a considerable amount helps you obtain vitamin D. All in all, it is worse than it is better, but the amount of people that go tanning is always increasing. Also, they are beginning to come out with tanning booths with little to no UV rays so people are less at risk.
I've read many articles about the unsafe aspects of tanning. The UV rays release endorphins leaving people feeling more happy than before they came to the salon in the first place. Also, tanning can be very addictive, which is awful. We all know tanning is bad and can cause cancer, but it is the addiction part that people need to work on, not the excessive information on the health risks. Tanning is like a drug. I'm usually opposed to it, but I enjoy it in the winter time when it is cold on, in moderation.
Great topic. Sometimes I cannot believe how much time people spend in tanning booths and the sun. I have very fair skin and am so careful to protect it, I have already had one mole removed it was nothing though, thankfully. It is so strange how the body works..we need sun but too much is damaging it just goes to show that we need EVERYTHING in moderation.
